The IT Network Administrator position provides guidance to the department and credit union with network and hardware security. Including but not limited to support for hardware, software, network, administration and data communication support needed to maintain systems.

Location: 1509 Baltimore Drive, Ames, IA 50010

Hours: Monday - Friday 8am to 5pm, rotating on-call Saturday's 9am to 1pm

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

  • Coordinates, recommends, applies and monitors the network, systems, and user access controls.
  • Assists in managing the PC/LAN server and other network devices.
  • Designs, installs administers, and monitors the physical and virtual components of the company's LAN and WAN.
  • Recommends, administers, and monitors network security through operating system controls, routing, and filtering devices, and security software. This includes maintaining endpoint security on all credit union computer equipment, ensuring network is hardened against external attacks, and protecting sensitive data from ex filtration.
  • Researches, recommends and provides support for systems, security and network tools to provide secure and flexible platforms.
  • Recommends standards, conventions, policies, procedures and innovations in all areas of expertise. Informs Credit Union about best practices with modern cyber security and threats.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge and Skills:

Experience: Three to five years of similar or related IT experience and/or(1) A two year college degree or (2) Completion of a specialized course of study at a business or trade school or (3) Completion of a specialized and extensive in-house training or apprenticeship program.

Education:(1) A bachelor's degree, or (2) achievement of formal certifications recognized in the industry as equivalent to a bachelor's degree (e.g. information technology certifications in lieu of a degree).

Interpersonal Skills:
Courtesy, tact, and diplomacy are essential elements of the job. Communicate professionally with department, users and vendors. Work involves much personal contact with others inside and/or outside the organization for purposes of giving or obtaining information, building relationships, or soliciting cooperation.

Other Skills:1. Experience with Windows, PC systems administration, LAN, TCP/IP, Telcom, and WAN.
2. Ability to work independently in troubleshooting problems, researching capabilities of current or proposed products; strong service orientation.
3. Progressive experience supporting mainframe, PC/LAN hardware, software and communication products. Includes the fundamentals of networks and PC hardware
4. Knowledge of industry standard regarding system, network, cyber security and access control procedures.
